WW2 YELLOW PERIL
During WW2, the European countries were afraid of Japan's economic and weapon power. Japan's technological advancements would continue to progress further, but during the war, Europe and America would create atomic bombs out of fear to combat Japan. During the war, two forms of orientalism began to form: the American settler strain and the European imperialist strain. The American settler strain quickly began with American soldiers being stationed in Japan, leading to a surge of Japanese war brides. The European imperialist strain spread when European powers had ideas of imperializing Japan.
These two forms of orientalism would later spread well into the era of the 1980s when the cyberpunk genre would popularize.
